Halloween Decorating in Australia
Along with celebrating, Halloween decorating has grown in popularity in Australia. Though not as elaborate as Halloween decorating is in the US, many Australian households decorate their homes and front yards to celebrate.
Decorations consist of spooky décor pieces, from cobwebs to skeletons, inflatables, props and signs to string lights and animated decorations that surprise and delight. It’s also a great opportunity for crafts with DIY décor and kids’ craft on the rise.
Halloween Costume Ideas
Costumes are an essential part of Halloween in Australia, with many opting to dress up for parties, events or trick-or-treating.
Popular Halloween costume ideas include anything from classic spooky costumes – think witches, vampires and ghosts. To other classic Halloween costumes including villain and horror movie icons such as Dracula, Frankenstein, Beetlejuice, Wednesday Addams and Harley Quinn.
Though, Halloween costumes don’t have to be spooky. Many opt to dress up as their favourite movie and TV characters, music and cultural icons. You can even try your hand at a DIY costume made from household items. The options are endless when it comes to Halloween costume ideas!
Trick-or-treating
Trick-or-treating is becoming more popular in Australian suburbs. While it’s not as widespread as in the United States, many communities embrace the tradition.
Houses that are decorated for Halloween signal that they are participating in the event. Trick-or-treaters visit decorated homes with family or friends, saying ‘Trick or treat!’ to collect lollies, chocolates or other treats. Trick-or-treating generally occurs early in the evening after 5pm.
Trick-or-treating may be relatively new in Australia, but it’s quickly becoming a fun and inclusive tradition that adds excitement before the festive season begins, and brings locals together for a fun event loved by both adults and kids.
