FAMILY TIDES OF UNITY

'Family Tides of Unity' is Target’s acknowledgement and support for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples and cultures. Through this design, our broader Deadly Store network and our First Nations employment program – we are committed to creating an inclusive environment, so everyone feels valued, respected and culturally safe at Target through economic opportunity and employment.

DESIGNED WITHIN COMMUNITY – FOR THE COMMUNITY

At Target we are focused on authentic community engagement – that means building strong partnerships with Indigenous communities and businesses right around Australia.

Indige Design Labs is a First Nations design and creative hub, supported by Ingeous Studios – a First Nations design and creative agency dedicated to culturally relevant and contemporary designs. The ‘Family Tides of Unity’ design draws upon icons and symbols that are designed to represent key principles and pillars of Reconciliation, demonstrating Target’s commitment to supporting and celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander culture.

The design includes elements of knowledge sharing and healing, alongside the eight Reconciliation pillars: institutional acceptance, relationships, race relations, historical acceptance, equality, equity, respect, unity, and opportunity. Target honours the roots of the design and is committed to engaging meaningfully with the communities we serve.

FAMILY TIDES OF UNITY

CREATING SAFE PLACES AND SPACES – THE TARGET JOURNEY

Designed by First Nations artists aged 13 – 22 from Indige Design Labs, with expert mentoring from Leigh Harris of Ingeous Studios, together they collaboratively developed the stunning ‘Family Tides of Unity’ design, incorporating icons and symbols that signify fundamental principles and pillars of Reconciliation.

This unique design is prominently displayed on our Acknowledgment to Country plaques, greeting visitors at the entrances of Target stores. It reinforces our dedication to respecting and celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.

CREATING SAFE PLACES AND SPACES – THE TARGET JOURNEY

At Target we have a strong commitment to Reconciliation as part of our commitment under the Wesfarmers Elevated Reconciliation Plan (ERAP) – key to this is fostering safe places and spaces for the community – something which starts with our stores and our focused Deadly Store network. A natural continuation and elevation of Target's First Nations Deadly store program and the commitment to cascading pillars of the Wesfarmers Elevated RAP, the design is a visual representation of Target's commitment to community, and ensuring all customers feel welcome in our stores.

The design, titled ‘Family Tides of Unity', was proudly named by internal First Nation program leads to represent the work Target is doing to create unity. Collaboration is at the heart of our Indigenous partnerships at Target, ensuring we honour cultural integrity and share stories authentically, with deep respect for the colours, symbols, and meaning behind the designs.

At Target, we're committed to being a trusted partner of First Nations peoples. With our national reach, we have a unique opportunity to celebrate Indigenous culture, sharing positive stories across our stores to inspire and educate customers and team members.

CREATING PATHWAYS TO MEANINGFUL EMPLOYMENT FOR FIRST NATIONS PEOPLE

Deadly Store Network is committed to exceeding local community parity in First Nations representation and providing mandatory cultural awareness training for all team members.

We foster local partnerships, engage in community events and create pathways for Indigenous leadership by actively supporting First Nations team members. Target Deadly Stores are situated in areas with high representation of First Nations peoples and are designated stores designed to increase cultural awareness and connection to better serve our customers.

Demonstrating respect and creating opportunities for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples is part of Target’s commitment to being accessible to everyone.
