Target change of mind returns policy
This policy applies to Target products purchased in store, on target.com.au or on kmart.com.au. Please note, products purchased from Target on kmart.com.au cannot be returned to or processed by Kmart stores.
Definition of change of mind return
A return is considered change of mind if you wish to return a product because you have changed your mind or need a different size, colour or style.
If you are returning because your product is faulty or doesn’t meet consumer guarantees, refer instead to the Consumer Guarantee policy.
Change of mind requirements
To process a change of mind return:
- You must return the product/s within 60 days of purchase, or 365 days if you are a OnePass Member.
- You must produce adequate proof of purchase.
- The product must be in resaleable condition, meaning:
- It is in its original packaging, including instruction manuals and all accessories; and
- It is unused, unassembled, in its original condition, and in the case of clothes, it is unworn with the original ticketing.
- The product must not be excluded from change of mind returns.
- Where the product is a white goods product or a big and bulky product, a collection fee will be incurred by you (as notified before you incur the fee).
- The product must not be part of a bulk order, where the purchase totals 100 units or more of any one product.
Target reserves the right not to process your change of mind return if these requirements are not satisfied.
Products excluded from change of mind returns
Change of mind returns will not be accepted for the following product categories:
- Cosmetics, unless the hygiene seal is intact
- Beauty products
- Fragrances
- Hosiery and shapewear
- Underwear, except bras
- Swimwear, unless the hygiene sticker is intact
- Pierced jewellery
- Printer cartridges, unless the seal is intact and packaging is unopened
- Personalised material
- Bedding, unless the packaging is unopened and intact. Including, but not limited to sheet sets, quilt covers, pillowcases, mattresses, air mattresses, sleeping bags and pillow protectors
- Tents, trampolines and furniture, unless the packaging is unopened and components have not been used or assembled
- Gift cards, phone recharge or third-party gift cards
- Trading cards, card collection packs and card decks, including, but not limited to Pokemon, NBA, Yu-Gi-Oh! and Panini
- Food and drink products
- Mobile phones and mobile internet modems, unless the packaging is unopened
Change of mind proof of purchase requirements
Adequate proof of purchase for change of mind returns includes:
- The Target receipt or digital receipt in the Target app or online account
- A clear photo of the full Target receipt, which must include the barcode
- Online Tax Invoice or order confirmation
- OnePass statement
OnePass 365 day change of mind returns
To be eligible for OnePass 365 days change of mind returns, you must have an active OnePass subscription or be a current trial member. You must also be able to demonstrate the active subscription by presenting the ‘live’ screen of the account status on the OnePass App. For more information on the OnePass membership, visit https://www.target.com.au/OnePass/learn-more.
For OnePass Members who enjoy 365 days for change of mind returns, for returns beyond 60 days (61-365 days), Target will provide you with a Target Returns Card. Additional exclusions apply on products returned after 60 days. These are:
- Event products (for example, and not limited to, Christmas, Easter, Halloween, Mothers’ Day, Fathers’ Day)
Refunds for change of mind returns
Refunds will only be issued to your original payment method. This includes the same card or digital platform (such as mobile or watch payment, e-wallet etc.) used for the initial purchase. However, if Target is unable to verify the original payment method, the payment method of the refund will be at Target's discretion.
Refunds processed via EFTPOS or other electronic payment methods may take up to five business days to appear in your account.
Information collection
In some instances, we may ask for information to satisfy operational and governance requirements. If you do not provide this information, Target may be unable to process your return. The information you provide may be accessed by authorised Target team members and authorised third parties for the purpose of fraud investigations and fraud protection activities. Information collected will be securely stored for a reasonable period of time and may be used for the purposes of research and analysis and may be disclosed to Government departments upon request, where required or authorised by law.
When returning a product you may be asked for your signature as authorisation of the return transaction.
How to return a product
Target products purchased in store, ordered through Target Online or the Target app (with the exception of white goods) can be returned to any of our stores or via post using the online returns form. For change of mind returns, the delivery fee is non-refundable.
Products purchased from Target on kmart.com.au
Products purchased from Target on Kmart Online or the Kmart app can be returned to any Target store or online by chatting with Kmart.
