Wasim Akram, often called the "sultan of swing", is regarded as one of the greatest fast bowlers in the history of cricket. Sultan is his official biography. At just 19 years old in just his second Test appearance for Pakistan in New Zealand, Akram took 10 wickets. He played a crucial role in Pakistan's success at the 1992 World Cup. Seven years later, in 1999, he led Pakistan to the finals of the World Cup where they capitulated and were defeated by Australia. This was the start of match-fixing controversies, however, none of the allegations could be proven. Akram became the first man to record 500 wickets in the 50-over format and finished his career as Pakistan's top wicket-taker in both Tests and ODIs. When Wisden released its list of best players of all time in 2002 Wasim was ranked as the best bowler in ODI of all time.Sultan reprises many remarkable stories, and reveals the background to a number of controversies including the match-fixing allegations. Akram has never spoken about this controversy, including during a judicial enquiry, but will discuss it for the first time in this book.
