I believe fashion design is a highly evocative tool of communication. Design is the pathway to escape reality. Through my craft I would like to take the audience on the journey - into an exotic world of fantasy. I am influenced by the architectural form of the East and the West . My cutting is highly experimental with the appreciation of the female form. I thrive to push boundaries and challenge the conservative. Within the experimental nature of my design, I still retain the integrity of femininity and elegance. And by adopting the process of introspection as a method of research, it has given me the supportive and creative ground to building a collection that reflects individuality.
"‘Monuments of Memory’ is my final year collection that narrates cultural identity with the focussi on my migratory past. The lush green choice of fabrication is inspired by the iconic colour of the Vietnamese passport. It is an important document that houses the memory of migration. The passport was also the initial catalyst for the tier structure. Each 3-dimensional tier structure is a representation of a piece of my memory. The repetitive application of the tier structure is to capture and exaggerate movement that is connected to the movement of migration."
