Roxane Chan
Roxane Chan was always really into art at school and liked the creative freedom compared to other subjects. She was also very interested in fashion at the time and aspired to pursue fashion design as a career because it is a way to transform creativity into wearable pieces, and that is very exciting to her. Naturally, Roxane decided to study Bachelor of Design in Fashion and Textiles combined with Bachelor of Arts in International studies at the University of Technology of Sydney. The course allowed her to learn French and live in France for a year in 2011 as well as learning technical and creative skills through the fashion subjects in the course. Although it was a lengthier degree it has been beneficial in her growth as a fashion designer, allowing Roxane to develop her design and aesthetic sensibilities.
COLLECTION
DREAMRIDERS
‘Dreamriders’ is strongly influenced by street culture and rebellious masculinities from films Rumble Fish (1983) and The Wild One (1953). This womenswear collection is about magnetism, power, rebellion and still having fun. She’s not your average kind of woman, there is a certain ruggedness, dreaminess, adventure, experience and sensuality she carries. The collection is taking the attitudes and mood from characters in the films and transforming them into a womenswear collection. The aim was to create comfortable, versatile but interesting pieces for people to wear anywhere, anytime, while having some interesting textiles involved.
