Target your Mind: Target's mental health program
Target team members Hannah and Grace discuss the Target your Mind mental health initiative.
In Australia approximately one million people live with depression and around two million live with anxiety. With the knowledge of statistics such as these, Target has developed “Target your Mind”, a mental health program aimed at supporting our teams adopt a positive culture and response to mental health issues within Target.
As part of the program launch in March 2018, all Target stores and support offices were provided with the “Target your Mind” toolkit, which promotes strategies for creating a mentally healthy workplace built around a proactive three-step process:
Step 1: Create a positive culture;
Step 2: Take notice, start a conversation; and
Step 3: Provide and/or seek information and support.
In addition, HR/Safety Business partners have been trained in mental health awareness with a focus on depression and anxiety to equip them to provide support in response to emerging mental health issues in the store and supply chain network.
Target has collaborated with Headspace, a leading Youth Mental Health organisation, to focus on the significant youth population within Target. Headspace has been instrumental in reviewing the “Target your Mind” program and have provided further contextual information to Target’s leadership team to ensure all levels of the business are engaged in taking positive steps towards Target being a mentally healthy workplace.
