What is Target’s Think Climate initiative?
We’re taking our next environmental step with the introduction of a Think Climate label on a large range of our clothing and manchester products. This label gives customers a choice to reduce their energy use by washing their Target products in cold water and hanging them out to dry where possible.
Why is Target encouraging customers to wash with cold water and line dry and what are the benefits?
“As about 80% of the energy in a warm wash is associated with heating water, cold washing uses less than one quarter of the energy for warm washing.”

As clothes dryers are one of the biggest energy users in a home, letting the sun do its work where possible to naturally dry our products is another easy way customers can reduce their impact on the environment and also save on energy bills.
What does ‘cold wash’ mean?
Cold wash is simply using the cold wash only cycle on your washing machine or hand washing using only the cold water tap.
Will I get the same results from cold washing and line drying?
Customers can be assured that all products with the Think Climate label have been thoroughly tested to Target’s stringent quality standards to ensure they will wash and wear as well as they always have.
We recommend our customers use a detergent suitable for cold washing
How many products feature the Think Climate label on them?
You will find the Think Climate label on the majority of Target brand clothing including women’s, men’s and children’s tops, jeans, pants, jumpers, socks and underwear.
A large range of Target brand manchester including towels, bath sheets, face washers, bath mats, bed linen, sheets, pillowcases, cushion covers and curtains feature the label.
As new stock arrives you will see the Think Climate label more and more.
